Liverpool Football Club (LFC) had to end its annual staff Christmas party prematurely after authorities discovered suspected drug paraphernalia in the restrooms of the city’s Anglican cathedral. The event, held on Thursday, October 12, was attended by around 500 staff members but did not include head coach Arne Slot or any players.
The discovery occurred during an unrelated medical emergency, which prompted searches at the venue. A staff member collapsed and required medical treatment, though the incident was not connected to the drug-related findings.
The club decided to end the event 30 minutes before the scheduled closing time of the bars. In a statement, LFC reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on illicit substances.
“We do not condone or tolerate the use of illegal substances at any of our sites or events. We thank the events team at the venue for their swift action and professional response to the medical emergency, which was unrelated,” the club said.
It also confirmed that the staff member who required medical assistance is recovering well.
Social media posts by Liverpool’s Vice President of Communications, Craig Evans, showcased the cathedral illuminated in red light, with the club’s badge and Liver bird emblem prominently displayed on chapel windows.
Despite the controversy, Liverpool continues to impress on the pitch. Under new head coach Arne Slot, the Reds are leading both the Premier League and Champions League tables. The team has only suffered one defeat this season, achieving victories against top clubs like Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayer Leverkusen.
Slot, who succeeded legendary manager Jürgen Klopp in the summer, has successfully combined Klopp’s high-energy style with the controlled possession approach of Pep Guardiola, positioning Liverpool as strong contenders across all competitions.
