During his recent visit to Bahrain, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar addressed the Indian diaspora in Manama, highlighting the importance of deepening ties between India and Bahrain. He emphasized strengthening trade, fostering community welfare, and exploring new avenues of collaboration.
Speaking to a gathering of the 3.35 lakh-strong Indian community in Bahrain, Jaishankar acknowledged their contributions to bilateral relations and underlined the government’s commitment to their welfare.
Jaishankar highlighted the annual trade turnover of $1.7 billion between India and Bahrain, emphasizing an increase in investments in both directions. He encouraged further collaboration in sectors like healthcare, energy, and tourism.
The welfare of the Indian community living abroad remains a priority, Jaishankar noted.
“Whichever country we go to, we focus on the welfare of the community. Here in Bahrain, there is a unique positivity and receptivity towards the Indian diaspora, which we intend to nurture further,” he said.
During his visit, Jaishankar co-chaired the 4th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The discussions spanned various sectors, including space, FinTech, education, and technology.
He also met Bahrain’s Trade Minister and Deputy Prime Minister to further enhance bilateral relations.
As part of his visit, Jaishankar paid homage at the iconic Shreenath Ji Temple in Manama. He described the experience as a moment of cultural and spiritual connection.
Jaishankar also attended the Manama Dialogue, a premier security forum, where he exchanged views on regional developments.
