Meghan Markle’s Netflix lifestyle show With Love, Meghan has caused controversy, attracting vitriolic criticism from even her estranged relatives and critics. The show, in which Meghan appears with her ‘old friends and new’, raised eyebrows about her depiction of a humble childhood. During this uproar, a former friend of the Duchess claims to have spoken out.

Previously a Meghan supporter, Katherine has changed her mind. In an interview on the Telling Everybody Everything podcast, Katherine confessed freely, “I liked Meghan Markle. I was rooting for Meghan Markle,” but continued, “Though she is very Hollywood — even for me — and I don’t like that in people.

It was the inconsistencies in Meghan’s personal accounts that registered with Katherine. “Perhaps it’s just the projects she’s selecting, it does seem like she has lied about if she knew Prince Harry,” Katherine said. She also flagged inconsistencies in the anecdotes of Meghan’s childhood, adding, “These things about her childhood change and don’t add up.”

Katherine particularly identified a contradiction over Meghan’s childhood. In the new series, Meghan says that she used to eat TV dinners as a child, but in a previous interview, she spoke of her family having “farm fresh” meals. Katherine noticed, “Her whole act just seems very manicured and very forced.”

Even though she was critical, Katherine stated that she doesn’t think Meghan is a “bad person,” but she does think that Meghan likes the benefits of fame. “She likes snuggling up to celebrities, and she wants the hundred-million-dollar contract, and she likes the fact that she’s married to a prince,” Katherine said.

Talking about the show’s unexpected renewal for season two amid the backlash, Katherine opined that audiences might be “hate-watching” With Love, Meghan. “Who knows what Netflix are doing?” she replied, going on to say, “They are smart — whether they love something or hate something, whatever keeps them watching more episodes.”

The show premiered on March 4 and was renewed for a second season just three days later.
