Denmark Parliament Defence Committee Chairman Rasmus Jarlov stressed the need for immediate security guarantees to Ukraine, cautioning that without them, any peace agreement would be a non-starter. In an interview with Sky News, Jarlov denounced the view in the US that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is taking advantage of American sympathy, calling it a “false narrative.”

“I would bet that Zelenskyy would gladly run naked through the streets of New York if that’s what it would take to ensure his country’s future,” Jarlov said, insisting that Ukraine’s existence cannot be reduced to ego or thankfulness but must be put in terms of a strategic imperative for the West.

He warned that Russia already sees itself in a state of war with the West, so any further aggression will be unavoidable. “If they think that, they will strike again, with the Baltic nations probably the initial target,” he warned. Jarlov insisted that only coercive deterrence would stop Moscow from escalating its military activities.

Emphasizing Europe’s economic prowess put at 15 times Russia’s European nations were called upon to do their share in defense. Certain nations, he claimed, have been remiss in their obligations, weakening the collective action.

If Europe stands firm and stands behind Ukraine, there can be only one result, a Ukrainian victory,” Jarlov insisted. But he cautioned that ongoing indecision might cause the US to pull its support, which would ultimately mean Ukraine’s defeat a result he called disastrous for Europe.”.

“European leaders should stop speaking and tweeting. They should get started on paying and shipping weapons to Ukraine as quickly as possible,” he pleaded, demanding instant and decisive measures to counter Moscow’s aggression.
