A 24-year-old woman, reportedly employed as a maid at Buckingham Palace, was taken into police custody on charges of common assault, criminal damage, and disorderly conduct while intoxicated.
The incident occurred at a bar in Victoria, central London, close to Buckingham Palace, on Tuesday evening after a Christmas gathering took a violent turn, according to London’s Metropolitan Police.
The woman was out with around 50 palace staff members when the situation escalated. Witnesses claim she attempted to punch the manager and broke several glasses. Despite security efforts to subdue her, she allegedly continued throwing glasses. “I’ve never seen one person get that crazy during a night out,” a witness remarked.

Following her arrest, she was detained overnight in a police cell and released 24 hours later with a penalty notice for disorder.
Buckingham Palace confirmed awareness of the incident, clarifying that disciplinary actions may follow. A spokesperson stated, “We are aware of an incident outside the workplace involving a number of Household staff who had previously attended an early evening reception at the Palace… While this was an informal social gathering, not an official Palace Christmas party, the facts will be fully investigated, with a robust disciplinary process followed in relation to individual staff and appropriate action taken.”
The Palace emphasized that the post-reception drinks at the bar were informal and not organized by the Palace.
