United Airlines has launched its heartwarming initiative, ‘Fantasy Flights,’ to bring smiles to children in need during the holiday season. These special flights transport children with cancer and those orphaned due to active-duty losses to a magical winter wonderland, lovingly recreated as the North Pole.
The flights, departing from 13 cities including Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo, are short trips that return to their origin. However, the magic begins when the children disembark. United Airlines employees and local volunteers transform airport gates or hangars into a twinkling wonderland filled with Christmas trees, sparkling lights, and Santa Claus himself, surrounded by his cheerful elves.
One of the first flights departed from Honolulu on December 7, with the pilot announcing over the intercom, “Santa has invited us to Christmas Island, and all his elves are waiting there on the ground for us.”
United Airlines Executive Vice President of Human Resources, Kate Gebo, emphasized the airline’s commitment to uplifting communities. “Making the North Pole closer than ever is one of the many ways we can show support for the communities where we live, work, and fly,” she said.
The initiative not only spreads joy to children but also creates cherished memories for families, especially during a challenging holiday season.
