Union Minister of Power and Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, visited the 2400 MW Tehri Hydro Power Complex in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, on July 15, 2024. During his visit, he inspected the ongoing construction activities at the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP).
Detailed Inspection of Key Areas
The Minister conducted a thorough inspection of several key areas, including the Butterfly Valve Chamber, the Machine Hall, and the Outfall of the Tehri PSP. He also reviewed the progress on the river joining works, which are vital for integrating the PSP into the existing water management systems.

Shri Manohar Lal praised the THDCIL team for their dedication and hard work in advancing renewable and reliable hydropower generation. He acknowledged their significant achievements and high standards in developing the 2400 MW Tehri Power Complex. The Minister highlighted the remarkable achievement of constructing the Tehri Dam, calling it a miracle and an engineering marvel. He linked this achievement to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.

About Tehri Hydro Power Complex
The Tehri Hydro Power Complex (THPC) is a multipurpose scheme on the river Bhagirathi, a tributary of the Ganges. It is designed to store surplus water during the monsoon and release it during the non-monsoon period to meet the irrigation and drinking water needs in the Gangetic plains of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The complex generates 2400 MW of peaking power.
