Tulip Siddiq was sentenced to two years in prison in absentia by a Bangladeshi court for corruption related to a land allocation case on 1 December 2025.  Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) accused her of using her influence as Hasina’s niece to secure a Dhaka land plot for her mother and siblings. She is sentenced for two years in prison and a fine of 100,000 Bangladeshi Taka (~£620). She, Hasina, and other co-accused were not present at the time of trial. An arrest warrant was issued in April 2025. The UK has no extradition treaty with Bangladesh, so Siddiq is unlikely to serve the sentence unless a formal extradition process is approved.
