“The Kalidas Edit”, an innovative dance production that brings alive the evocative world of Kalidasa, one of the greatest literary minds of classical Sanskrit literature. The production brings together the distinguished artistry of Shreyasi Gopinath (Bharatanatyam) and Madhur Gupta (Odissi) in a seamless confluence of classical forms and poetic timelessness.
Through a thoughtful curation of Kalidasa’s seminal works — Kumarasambhavam, Ritusamhara, and Abhigyan Shakuntalam — the performance offers an immersive experience where classical dance becomes the language through which his poetry is reinterpreted for the stage. Each presentation is accompanied by live music, enriching both the sensory and emotional resonance of the performance.
Rooted in the sophisticated grammar of Bharatanatyam and Odissi yet informed by a contemporary sensibility, The Kalidas Edit aims to introduce Kalidasa’s enduring vision to new and diverse audiences without compromising the integrity of classical form. This is not merely a retelling — it is a reawakening.
The event will be held on 30th August 2025 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
