In an exclusive interview with ANI, PM Modi lauded the vibrant engagement of the people of Kashmir in the recent Lok Sabha polls, emphasizing a surge in unity and belongingness following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

Modi asserted that the removal of Article 370 was not the agenda of Kashmiris but merely that of “four-five families,” suggesting that their vested interests had erected barriers to progress. He highlighted the consequential rise in unity and tourism post-revocation, affirming that the people of Kashmir have embraced a stronger sense of unity and connectivity with the rest of India.

The PM Modi r acknowledged the challenges faced during the transitional period, including temporary internet shutdowns, as essential steps towards the greater good. He underscored the importance of governmental decisions and strategies, despite occasional hurdles from certain NGOs.

Notably, the recent Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed historic turnouts, with constituencies such as Srinagar, Baramulla, and Anantnag-Rajouri recording impressive participation rates, marking a significant milestone since the abrogation of Article 370.

Modi hailed the enthusiastic participation of voters, emphasizing that casting a ballot symbolized an affirmation of India’s Constitution and a dedication to the nation’s ethos. He interpreted the record-breaking voter turnout as a resounding message to the world and a testament to the unwavering commitment of Kashmiris towards the democratic process.

With the ongoing Lok Sabha polls progressing across six phases and concluding on June 1, PM Modi expressed confidence in the resilience and democratic fervor exhibited by the people of Kashmir. Vote counting is slated for June 4, marking a crucial milestone in India’s democratic journey.
