Liquor scam case: SC issues notice to probe agencies on Sisodia’s bail plea

The Supreme Court sent notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate on Friday regarding Manish Sisodia’s bail applications in connection with the liquor policy violations case.

A bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna, Bela M Trivedi, and Ujjal Bhuyan scheduled a hearing for interim orders on July 28. The court stated during the hearing that policy decisions should not be made subject matter, but the allegation here is that there were extraneous influences.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who was representing Manish Sisodia, brought up the health of Sisodia’s wife. The court stated that it is aware of the diesesae that Sisodia’s wife is suffering from and advised him to file an application for temporary relief.

A panel led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud agreed on Monday to hear the Sisodia petition on July 14. Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi stated that his wife is ill and requested an expedited listing.

Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, has applied to the Supreme Court for bail in CBI and ED proceedings involving alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy matter. He has appealed the Delhi High Court’s decision to deny his bail application.

The Delhi High Court recently denied him bail in both cases. The Delhi High Court stated in its judgement issued on July 3, 2023, in the ED case, that the prospect of influencing witnesses cannot be ruled out due to the accused’s high political positions and his position in the party in power in Delhi.
