The recent National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report has increased the Centre’s concern over the increase in crimes against women, children and the elderly in Haryana, which has come second. Tomorrow, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to conduct a review in Chandigarh. According to sources, Shah will receive a comprehensive law and order report of the state during this session.
As per the schedule, a meeting has been scheduled at an institute located in Sector 26 at around 5 pm. Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department TVSN Prasad, DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and other senior officials of Home and Police Department will be present in this meeting. Although detailed information about the meeting has not been received yet, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij confirmed the meeting and said that he will not be able to attend the meeting due to personal reasons.
Amit Shah will also participate in the Geeta Jayanti celebrations of Kurukshetra on 22 December. Following that, he is scheduled to arrive in Chandigarh in the evening. A meeting with Chandigarh officers is on the agenda, and only subsequent to this will there be a review session with the Haryana Home Department. Discussions indicate that Shah will gather feedback from police officers on various matters, encompassing the state’s law and order. This duration of Shah’s engagement is regarded as particularly pivotal.
The report of the National Crime Records Bureau for the year 2022 is going to raise concerns regarding the safety of the common people in the state. According to the NCRB report, 2.43 lakh criminal cases have been registered in the state in the year 2022, which is 17.6 percent more than the year 2021. There has been an increase of 7.7 percent in crimes against children in the state. 6,138 cases were registered in the state in the year 2022, which were 5,700 in the year 2021 and 4,338 in 2020.
Only 2,494 cases have been registered in Haryana’s neighboring state Punjab. In Haryana, cases of sexual exploitation of 1,272 girls have also been registered under the POCSO Act, apart from this, 68 boys have also been made victims of exploitation.
