The second day of the Haryana Assembly’s winter session commenced at 11 AM on Monday, with Chief Minister Manohar Lal addressing the House. During the session, the discussion opened with the demand to enhance the upper section of the raw Yamuna dam, raised by Yamunanagar MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora. In response, Cabinet Minister JP Dalal assured that the government would take concrete steps towards this enhancement. Health services emerged as a significant concern brought forth by Arora in the House. Health Minister Anil Vij acknowledged the challenges, stating the intent to uplift and improve conditions. He specifically mentioned the dire state of 162 Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and confirmed that tenders for their renovation have been initiated. A contentious debate ensued between Leader of Opposition Bhupendra Singh Hooda and Speaker Gyan Chand Gupta concerning allegations against Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal. Hooda vehemently dismissed Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala’s accusations and demanded their retraction. He advocated for an independent investigation by a High Court-appointed sitting judge, emphasizing the House’s inability to conduct such inquiries. Hooda further pressed for an investigation against the implicated principal. Deputy CM Chautala countered, questioning Hooda’s resistance to investigation, standing firmly by his prior statement. Chief Minister Manohar Lal stated that a request for an investigation into the Jind case will be sent to the Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice. The Home Department will draft the letter, outlining the investigation’s scope and terms, tobe overseen by a sitting judge. MLA Abhaya Singh Chautala brought up the unresolved sexual harassment case involving former sports minister Sandeep Singh and a junior women’s coach. He highlighted the lack of progress despite a case registered in Chandigarh. Home Minister Anil Vij responded, mentioning the matter’s current legal status. He also highlighted increased corruption, inflation, and a substantial rise in education department vacancies, surpassing 71,000 unfilled positions, contributing to escalating unemployment.
