Congress has no faith in Ambedkar and Constitution, says Karnataka CM Bommai

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai claimed on Monday that the Congress Party does not believe in Dr. BR Ambedkar or the Indian Constitution after All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala accused him of frequently changing reservation in the state.

In response to Surjewala’s tweet about the reservation, Bommai stated, “The reservation was described as “illegal” and “anti-Constitutional” by Congress leaders. Dr. Ambedkar drafted a provision in the Constitution to provide for population-based reservations. As a result, the state government met a long-standing demand of the SC/ST communities and recommended that it be included in the Constitution’s ninth schedule.”

“The Congress Party did not believe in Dr. BR Ambedkar or the Constitution he wrote,” Bommai said to reporters on Monday.

Surjewala stated in a tweet on April 2nd, “Droha is Double Engine Sarkara! The DNA of the BJP is anti-SC-ST! The Bommai government is mocking the Constitution by changing reservations three times in 90 days – on the 26th and 29th of December, 2022, and on the 24th of March, 2023. The BJP’s Dupe, Deceive, and Defraud policy will be defeated in #Karnataka!”

CM Bommai accused Congress of engaging in vote-bank politics, saying, “During its tenure, the Congress did nothing for the SC/ST communities and instead used them as a vote bank.”

“They are lying about the report of the Justice Nagmohan Das Commission being submitted four years ago. However, the commission was given a six-month extension by the BS Yediyurappa government.

During my administration, an all-party meeting was called and assent was obtained. Later, the State Cabinet made a decision in favour of the SC/ST communities. The government issued an order that it be included in the ninth schedule.”
