CM Bommai announces 17% salary hike to government employees

Karnataka CM Basavraj Bommai announced a salary hike of 17% to protesting state government employees as an interim relief on Wednesday. With this announcement, at least 9 lakh employees of the State government will get benefit who had earlier gone on indefinite strike.

Notably, the employees of the state government went on strike after the government failed to implement recommendations of the 7th pay commission. Speaking to the media in Bengaluru, CM Bommai stated that government has announced a 17% salary hike for the employees as an interim relief.

He furthermore added that, a committee will be constitute to study the new pension scheme in other states and will be headed by Additional Chief Secretary.

“The committee has been asked to submit a detailed report within two months. They will study all financial implications and other issues related to the NPS,” CM said.

Meanwhile, CS Shadakshari, who’s the President of the Karnataka state employees association expressed while reacting on the decision that the employees won’t be calling off the strike.

“We’ll not take back the decision of employees protesting until the CM takes the decision to implement the 7th pay commission recommendations. We have given choice to CM, and we’ll wait for govt decision,” CS Shadakshari said.

The decision of the CM comes within hours, after Karnataka state employees went on an indefinite strike earlier in the day.
