A race between a BMW and a Mercedes on Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli Sea Link resulted in a major accident on Sunday morning, causing significant traffic disruption. Both drivers have been arrested, though no serious injuries were reported.
Key Highlights:
1. Two luxury cars, a BMW and Mercedes, collided with a cab on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
2. The cab, carrying a family of four, overturned multiple times, but fortunately, no severe injuries occurred.
3. Drivers Tarique Chaudhary and Shahbaz Khan were arrested for rash driving and attempted culpable homicide.
The incident took place around 11 am when a Mercedes crashed into a BMW, which in turn hit a cab. The cab, driven by Nisar Ahmed (26), was carrying a family and was spun across multiple lanes, finally coming to a stop. Fortunately, none of the passengers sustained serious injuries, though they were taken to the hospital for a check-up.
The cab driver claimed that the BMW and Mercedes were speeding and appeared to be racing each other, leading to the crash. The police have filed a case against the drivers—Shahbaz Khan (31) and Tarique Chaudhary (29)—for rash driving and endangering life. Both drivers were arrested and taken for a medical examination to check for alcohol consumption.
The accident caused a significant traffic jam on the sea link, with one carriageway completely blocked for about 30 minutes. The police cleared the wreckage and restored traffic flow after towing the vehicles. The investigation is ongoing.
