Designer Payal Singhal has been in the industry for over 25 years and her designs are an amalgamation of quirk, beach aesthetics, and all things gorgeous!
With a stand alone store in Bombay for two decades, PS has now entered the Indian market and it’s as beautiful as it could get! Her new home aka flagship store is at the gallery space at Ogaan in The Dhan Mill, New Delhi and is the designer’s stand-alone store in the capital city’s go-to design hub.
For Mumbai-born and bred designer Payal Singhal, the maximum city may be home, but her global sensibility has always ensured that her patrons are spread far and wide.
The designer works with Indian and historical inspirations, contextualising them for a modern audience in her contemporary clothes. Her collection features the brand’s bestsellers and classics across bridal wear, occasion wear, menswear, accessories and more. All her designs boast of her classic, signature elements such as the PS blush pink and rose gold accents, a Payal Singhal X Marshall’s PS prints, and soft vintage look and feel that ties her ensembles to the brand’s deep-rooted traditional ethos.
Payal Singhal’s SS ‘23 ‘Modern Mughals’ collection dips into the wardrobe of India’s erstwhile royalty, and reimagines their ensembles with a playful, present-day twist. The mood board goes as far back as the Mughal era, as the designer reinterprets old-world silhouettes with a new-age nod. While the collection brings back the kalidar anarkalis, ghera lehenga and poncho salwar, it also adds the brand’s signature sensuality to these traditionally restrained silhouettes. The colour palette is pared-down muted tones with accents of bright pops making it equal parts edgy and elegant.
The zardozi embroidery has been used for scenic storytelling, as the patterns in each outfit come with their own distinct narrative. Something old, something new… but all the while being quintessentially PS!
Speaking about the new collection and new store, Payal told TDG, “I’ve been connected to Delhi since the launch of the brand. The gallery space has been very well-curated by Ogaan, and we are excited to be closer to all our patrons in the city with this store. Our Bombay freshness and international mindset has always found many takers in Delhi, and we look forward to now presenting them all our must-haves under one roof”.
The designer’s label over the last two decades has gradually carved a niche in the Indian fashion landscape, as a sought-after label for contemporary Indian clothing that translates effortlessly from Indian to Western occasion wear, highlighted with signature prints and inspirational mood boards that range from world cultures, print traditions, architectural marvels and mural traditions. Besides the ceaseless commitment to offering India Modern solutions to women across the world, what also sets the Payal Singhal label apart is their repertoire of custom signature prints that she has been designing since 2010. This has become a hallmark of the brand, allowing one to spot a PS creation from a mile away!
