Delhi-NCR is facing a severe air quality crisis as the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached a staggering 491, triggering the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-IV. Thick smog engulfed roads and residential areas, disrupting daily life across Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. Students, parents, and office workers are seeking clarity on school schedules, office functioning, and public restrictions.

Are Delhi Schools Closed Tomorrow?

Schools up to Class 5 and Classes 6 to 11 will follow a hybrid learning model, combining online and offline lessons. However, Classes 10 and 12 will continue with regular schedules and are excluded from hybrid arrangements.

Authorities have advised schools to minimize physical attendance while maintaining academic continuity. State and local governments may further suspend physical classes for Classes VI to IX and XI depending on local air conditions.

What is Under GRAP-IV

GRAP-IV is an emergency measure enacted when pollution reaches “severe” levels. Under these restrictions:

  • Trucks are barred from entering Delhi, except essential services or vehicles running on LNG, CNG, electric or BS-VI diesel.
  • Light commercial vehicles registered outside Delhi are restricted unless transporting essential goods or running on approved fuel types.
  • Public authorities and citizens are advised to reduce outdoor activities to limit health hazards caused by high particulate matter and toxic air pollutants.

Offices to Function at 50% Capacity

Both government and private offices are instructed to operate at 50% workforce capacity, with remaining staff working from home. The order, issued under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, aims to reduce traffic congestion and curb emissions. The central government may extend similar measures to all its offices depending on air quality forecasts.

What is the Order for Classes

  • Classes up to V and VI–XI (except 10th and 12th) to follow hybrid mode.
  • Physical attendance minimized wherever possible.
  • Schools retain flexibility to suspend in-person sessions for certain classes if air quality worsens.
  • Online platforms and digital classrooms will continue to ensure learning is uninterrupted.
