UN Report Accuses Israel of Genocide in Gaza

A new United Nations report accuses Israel of committing acts in Gaza that resemble genocide. It highlights widespread civilian casualties and accuses Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war.

UN Alleges Intentional Harm

The UN Committee accused Israel of intentionally causing suffering to Palestinians. It claimed Israel enforces a harsh siege on Gaza while obstructing humanitarian aid. The report also alleged that Israel targeted civilians and aid workers despite repeated international warnings.

“Through its siege over Gaza, obstruction of humanitarian aid, alongside targeted attacks and killing of civilians and aid workers, despite repeated UN appeals, binding orders from the International Court of Justice and resolutions of the Security Council, Israel is intentionally causing death, starvation and serious injury, using starvation as a method of war and inflicting collective punishment on the Palestinian population,” the report stated.

Criticism of Military Tactics

The report criticized Israel’s use of AI-assisted targeting systems with limited human oversight. It claimed this method, combined with heavy bombings, fails to protect civilians.

“The Israeli military’s use of AI-assisted targeting, with minimal human oversight, combined with heavy bombs, underscores Israel’s disregard of its obligation to distinguish between civilians and combatants and take adequate safeguards to prevent civilian deaths,” the report added.

Israeli Strikes on Hezbollah

Israel, meanwhile, launched missile strikes on Hezbollah positions in Beirut, Times of Israel reported. The strikes hit areas in Beirut’s southern suburbs, known as Dahiyeh. These areas are Hezbollah strongholds. Israel issued evacuation warnings 30 minutes before the attacks.

US Pushes for Diplomacy

The US has stepped in to address the crisis. US Ambassador to Lebanon, Lisa Johnson, presented a proposal to the Lebanese government on Thursday. A report said that Lebanese officials are optimistic about Hezbollah’s agreement. An official response is expected by Monday.

Rising Violence Since October 7

The situation worsened after Hamas’ October 7 attacks. In response, Hezbollah began daily rocket and drone strikes on northern Israel. Over 68,000 Israelis have fled their homes. Hezbollah leaders vowed to continue their attacks to stop Israelis from returning home.
