In an interview recently with ANI in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged India to flex its global influence for ending the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. “India will play its role. I think that India began to recognize that this is not just a conflict, this is real war of one man, and his name is Putin, against the whole country, whose name is Ukraine,” he added.

He pointed out India’s great standing on the world stage, asking for it to take action against Russia. “You are a big country. You have a big influence and you can stop Putin and halt his economy, and put him really in his place,” Zelenskyy said.

The appeal by the Ukrainian President to India underlines the relevance of international intervention in the war with devastating effects on Ukraine. He feels that the involvement of India may lead in curbing the aggression and bringing peace.

Zelenskyy’s words reflect a growing sentiment from the world and the major powers, including India, to take sides and contribute something in order to get solutions toward crisis-hit Ukraine as the war escalates further.
