In a significant move to monitor the movements of an accused on interim bail, Udhampur Police has installed a GPS tracking device, commonly known as an anklet, as per the order dated 27-12-2023 issued by the Court of 3rd Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu (NIA Court).
The wearable GPS tracker is affixed around the ankle of the accused to closely monitor and track their movements.
The case, registered under FIR No. 97/2022 at Police Station Udhampur under sections 17, 18, 39, and 40 of UAPA along with Sections 121 and 122 IPC, involves the accused Khursheed Ahmed, son of Mohd. Abdullah, resident of Motla, Dessa, District Doda. The accused had applied for bail, leading to the implementation of the GPS tracking device to ensure compliance with the conditions set by the court.
This proactive step by Udhampur Police follows a similar action taken in November 2023 when the Jammu and Kashmir Police installed a GPS tracker on accused Ghulam Mohd Bhat. Bhat is currently undergoing trial for his association with various terrorist organizations and his alleged involvement in terror financing, acting at the behest of the proscribed terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen.
The installation of GPS trackers on individuals on interim bail underscores law enforcement’s commitment to ensuring public safety and monitoring the activities of those facing serious charges related to terrorism. The technology aids in maintaining a close watch on the movements of the accused, providing an additional layer of security and oversight during the legal proceedings.
