Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray announced on Saturday that if his party comes to power after the Maharashtra assembly election, his government will scrap the tender for the Dharavi slum redevelopment project in Mumbai.

Opposing the sops being provided for the Dharavi redevelopment project, Uddhav Thackeray vowed during a news conference, “We won’t let it happen.”

“Is it Dharavi redevelopment or ‘Ladka Mitra Yojna’,“We will not give additional sops and if required, call for a fresh tender after coming to power.” ” Uddhav Thackeray stated.

The multi-crore Dharavi slum redevelopment initiative does not entail land transfers to the Adani Group, but rather to several Maharashtra government departments. The Ahmedabad-based firm would build dwellings and pass them over to these agencies for distribution to people of Asia’s largest slum.

Speaking in the Maharashtra legislature over the revenue department’s budgetary requests, senior Congress politician Prithviraj Chavan recently alleged that the Dharavi slum redevelopment project is a “big scam” and urged the Maharashtra government to issue a white paper on it.

Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil promised to release a white paper on the Dharavi project. He stated that the white paper will provide specifics about the tender procedure.
