Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Uniform Civil Code Bill will be passed in Assam by February 2024 and no one will be allowed to have more than one wife. He further said that even the Muslim society has been supporting the initiative when it was put for debate in that section.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi put a stop for Triple Talaq. Now moving one step ahead, we are bringing in the Uniform Civil Code Bill. With this, a man can have only one wife. If he wants to marry, he has to legally divorce his wife first. We will think about entire people of the nation and will not confine to only one section like BRS and Congress,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing a public meeting as part of election campaign at Charminar in the city on Wednesday.
“I had seen a video where someone is behaving abusively with police. It is taking place as there is a government trying to appease one section. Bring the BJP government to power and imagine anyone daring to misbehave with the police,” he asked, adding that changing the name of Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar will be a half-an-hour job after BJP coming to power in Telangana. “Bring BJP government in the state and at Centre. Can anyone dare to behave rashly with police. There will be no appeasement in Telangana. In UP and Assam also, the same was the situation in the past. But after coming to power, BJP changed it for better. Only one community is being addressed here. We have to bring change in Telangana. What happened to the question papers of TSPSC? Where is Dalit CM?” he asked.
