Typhoon Shanshan, which began affecting parts of Japan, has already caused significant disruption, including a deadly landslide on Wednesday that resulted in one fatality and several injuries. Weather officials have issued the highest-level warnings in anticipation of the typhoon’s impact, forecasting that it will make landfall in southern Kyushu on Thursday. The storm is expected to bring up to 60 centimeters (23.6 inches) of rainfall within 24 hours, along with strong winds, high waves, and widespread rainfall across much of Japan, with particular concern for Kagoshima prefecture.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as Typhoon Shanshan continues its slow advance up the Japanese archipelago, fearing extensive damage due to the severe weather conditions it is bringing.
