Three months down, this year has already reached the much-awaited (and often dreaded) summer feels. With the expaerience of chilly winds behind us, we seem to have fallen back into our regular mode of living. The resolutions that came up in the first week of January seem long forgotten. But here are twelve ways to help you reboot your life in the best ways possible!!

Start reading again

Books help us to rewire our brain. They calm our mental faculties and help enhance our inert capabilities. Whether it is non-fiction or fiction that you choose, your brain gets the required exercise for the day. At least some part of us does, right? And with a ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ or ‘Where Rainbows End’, you can easily get transported into a magical world of fantasy as well!

Write

Pick up that pen, dust out that paper and write! I still carry a pen and diary everywhere I go to note down any nitty gritties of the day. Gratitude journaling is the need of the hour as well. Not only does it promote wellness, it also rewires your brain to look at the positives. By jotting down your achievements you feel a sense of positivity as well.

Engage your senses

Spring-time in Chandigarh is the best, isn’t it? The roads just look like a fairytale covered with yellow leaves and the migratory birds that add their own song in the air. Engage your natural senses. Step away from your busy thoughts for just a bit and focus on what is around you. You can even practice the following technique just for this: Count five things you see, four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. How do you feel now?

Meditate

A lot of people say that meditation is not for them. Well, that’s okay. However, the truth is, nobody is born with the ability to meditate. Like any other skill, we must strive to build upon it with a clear goal in sight. Apart from relaxing the senses and hence, the mind, meditation also gives us the inner satisfaction that we just can’t obtain from the busyness of the world.

Try therapy

The fact that the pandemic made therapy more accessible is something we should take advantage of. Go ahead, explore different types of therapy. There are group, personal, Expressive Arts, Sound therapy, Neuro-Linguistic-Programming therapies, and so many more. Choose the one that you related to the most. The purpose of therapy is never to discover that you aren’t strong enough to handle situations on your own; but rather that you don’t have to.

Say ‘no’

Prioritising what is important to us is so very important! By learning the art of saying ‘no’ we find a lot more time available, to finish off sundry things instead of engaging in unnecessary ones. This way we learn how to prioritise yourself, hence, engaging in a little bit of self-love as well.

Serve

To serve doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to provide monetary support. The simple act of giving someone food, water, clothes, a helping hand, all gets counted as service. By helping others, we fill our own cup of happiness.

Declutter

Physically and mentally declutter all that isn’t needed anymore. We hold onto things for sentimental reasons or due to negligence. By emptying out space, we make way for newer experiences.

Practice self-care

Physical self-care such as getting a massage, does wonders to our body and mind. At the same time, by engaging in mental acts such as forgiving someone, we practice self-care at a metaphysical level, which leaves a lasting impact on our psyche as well.

Map your life:

Take a pause, honey, and observe, where you are headed. Is this where you wanted to be at this point in your life? Revisit your goals, wants, desires; then prioritise the ones that give you most satisfaction, lest you walk around aimlessly for another whole year.

Get your heart racing:

I recently took up running, and man oh man! It has changed my life! The blood rushing to your ears gives a good boost of dopamine to the mind. And if not for that, do it to keep yourself looking healthy and fine!

K.I.S.S.:

Keep It Simple Silly: is the newest acronym I’ve learnt. By overcomplicating a task, we often fall into procrastination and the work doesn’t get done. By keeping tasks simpler, life becomes easier and then all else is worth getting done.
