In a recent campaign blunder, Donald Trump’s team mistakenly used a stunning image of the European country of Georgia in an advertisement aimed at voters in the US state of Georgia. This mix-up has ignited a wave of criticism on social media, with many calling out the former president for a lack of diligence in fact-checking.
As the election approaches, with just six weeks left, both Trump and his opponent, Kamala Harris, are feeling the pressure. Following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race earlier this year, Trump expressed confidence in securing victory in Georgia, prompting his campaign to allocate under $3 million for advertising in the crucial swing state, as reported by Reuters.
The controversial advertisement read, “ATTENTION GEORGIA: I’m humbly asking you to stop what you’re doing and check your voter registration status. Only a handful of votes will decide this election. We can stop inflation, secure our borders, lower taxes, and make America Great Again!” However, it featured a backdrop of picturesque mountains and blooming fields, which social media users quickly identified as a stock image of the Caucasus mountains from the actual country of Georgia.
Commenting on the error, Ammar Moussa, the director of rapid response for the Kamala Harris campaign, remarked on X, “Yikes. The Trump campaign is running ads in Georgia featuring a picture from…the country of Georgia. Top-notch operation.” Another user humorously suggested that Trump might mistakenly add Russia to the US if given the chance.
