Zomato Delivery Agent’s Bike Breaks Down, Swims Through Mumbai Rains To Deliver Orders

A Zomato delivery agent, Rahat Ali Khan, braved the torrential rains in Mumbai on foot to fulfill orders after his bike broke down on Wednesday. He has received considerable praise for going above and beyond to complete his deliveries despite the challenges of heavy rainfall and a malfunctioning bike.

On the same day, Mumbai experienced severe rain, resulting in significant waterlogging and traffic congestion across various parts of the city. Many people were stranded in their offices until the water levels decreased, while cab fares surged as others attempted to navigate the chaos to get home.

In the midst of these challenges, Rahat Ali Khan managed to deliver two orders on foot. Zomato customer Swati Mittal took to the social media app Threads to express her appreciation for Khan’s dedication.

“We ordered food and Rahat’s bike broke down and that man walked to two different locations and finished his delivery in this heavy rain all drenched!” she wrote. Acknowledging her privilege, she continued, “We should really support delivery staff who are on the streets in heavy rains making our lives convenient. It’s a privilege! Thank you Rahat!”

While many praised Swati for highlighting the Zomato partner’s commitment, some criticized her for ordering food during the downpour and questioned whether she had tipped the agent. One commenter remarked, “He is really working hard for his family. I hope one day he will get his reward from karma.” Another added, “Support them by not ordering on the app during heavy rains.”

In response to inquiries about whether she tipped the delivery executive, Mittal stated, “Absolutely. Goes without saying. Just didn’t advertise what I did for him. It was just a thank you post of gratefulness for his effort.”

Following the heavy rainfall on Wednesday, vehicular and rail traffic in Mumbai resumed on Thursday, although the rains had inundated low-lying areas, disrupted local train services, and led to the diversion of at least 14 incoming flights.
