WhatsApp Introduces New Feature To Prevent Users From Joining Unknown Groups

WhatsApp’s new feature aims to enhance user safety by providing more information about a group before joining. Now, if someone you don’t know adds you to a group, you’ll see additional details like who added you, when the group was created, and who created it.

This feature is already available to some WhatsApp users, it will be available to everyone on the platform in the coming weeks. WhatsApp will now also provide users with more context about the account holder who texts them outside of a group.

The Meta-owned platform announced that this user safety feature aims to help individuals make more informed decisions about joining groups. “This is particularly helpful if you have just met someone or a group of people and haven’t yet saved them in your contacts,” WhatsApp stated in a press release on Tuesday, July 9.

Therefore, in 2019, WhatsApp introduced enhanced control for users regarding group invitations. Users can now navigate to Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups, offering options such as “Everyone,” “My Contacts,” or “My Contacts Except.”
