Air Quality Concerns in Delhi

While Noida basks in its festive celebrations, nearby Delhi is grappling with serious pollution issues. On Diwali morning, Anand Vihar recorded “severe” air quality, with the Air Quality Index (AQI soaring to 419 and peaking at 500, mainly due to PM10 pollutants. The 24-hour average AQI in Delhi reached 307, a significant rise from the 268 reported the previous Tuesday. Experts from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) have warned that air quality in Delhi may worsen in the coming days, likely remaining in the “very poor” category (AQI 300-400).

Neighboring regions like Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Greater Noida, and Noida reported “poor” air quality, while Faridabad recorded a “moderate” AQI of 181. Last Diwali, on November 12, Delhi enjoyed its cleanest celebration in eight years, with an AQI of 218. This year, however, authorities are on high alert and have committed to taking strict action against those who violate the firecracker ban to help reduce pollution levels during the festive season.
