Trending Barbie: Pink is ruling the world

The diametrically opposite films Barbie and Oppenheimer hit theatres last Friday and haven’t slowed down a bit in terms of collections. Christopher Nolan’s biographical thriller and Greta Gerwig’s musical fantasy have driven fans crazy and created a social media frenzy. Fans all over the world ventured out to see both movies on the same day while dressing up in the colour themes of their favourite films. Both films have done exceptionally well around the world, but Barbie seems to be ahead in the race as it has grossed a total of $472.6 million (including previews) at the worldwide box office in the first five days as per the latest records, while Oppenheimer’s earnings sum up to about $238 million worldwide. Barbie’s popularity is partly because of the extensive marketing, but a great part of it is because of the emotional connection that millions of people worldwide share. They’ve grown up with the toy and are overjoyed to enjoy this new wave of all things pink. They are desperate to go back to their childhood’s pink Barbie car and take a trip down memory lane. The movie has exceeded expectations, broken records in terms of its collection, and proved that indeed ‘life in plastic is fantastic’.
