In a rather surprising turn of events, cricket icon MS Dhoni fans are celebrating Trump’s victory with the hashtag “Thala for a reason.” Social media is full of the phrase, combined with #USAElection2024 and a photo of Trump and Dhoni from a golf event last year. Fans are linking the event to Dhoni’s famed jersey number 7. A user said, “6+1+1+2+2+4 = 16, and 1+6 = 7,” humorously connecting the election date to Dhoni’s number.

Fans regard Dhoni’s number 7 as a sign of command and victory. “Thala”—a Tamil term that means “leader” —has come to become synonymous with Dhoni himself. A fan wrote beneath a post, “The forty-7th president—Thala for a reason.”.

Dhoni, realizing the innovative nature of his fans, appreciated their efforts. “I did not know about this trend,” he said during an event. “I thank my fans. I don’t have to respond on social media—whenever required, they do it for me.”

Trump’s Victory Address

He was also addressing his supporters at a rally in West Palm Beach, Florida. “Your 47th president, and your 45th president,” he said while referring to national unity. “It’s time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us. It’s time to unite,” he said as the US entered into a new page in the country’s history.
