Samsonite Launches ‘Suitcase’ Into Space and Drops It from 130,000 Feet! | WATCH What Happened

Retailing at $425 (approximately Rs 35,735), the Proxis suitcase from Samsonite has made headlines after undergoing an extraordinary test in extreme conditions, including temperatures plummeting to a chilling -85°F. The suitcase was equipped with a self-deploying parachute system to ensure a controlled landing as it returned to Earth, touching down wheels first.

Collaboration with Sent Into Space

The rigorous test was conducted in partnership with Sent Into Space, a marketing agency known for launching products to assess their durability under harsh environments. The Proxis is touted as Samsonite’s lightest and toughest model, weighing just 4.6 pounds. Its outer shell is crafted from an innovative material called Roxkin, which is described as recyclable, multilayered, and highly responsive, striking a remarkable balance between strength and lightness.

Statements from Samsonite

Ulliyada Bopanna, Vice President of Design and Innovation at Samsonite, praised the bag’s unique features, emphasizing its strength and lightweight design: “It’s very strong but extremely lightweight, and in that weight-to-strength ratio is where the resilience comes from.”

Daring Challenges

Samsonite’s instructions to Sent Into Space were ambitious, with a request to “slam” the suitcase “into a mountain.” Dr. Chris Rose, Head of Projects and Business Development at Sent Into Space, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I’m glad we could find that mountain for them because the footage speaks for itself.”

A Noteworthy Addition to Product Testing

Sent Into Space has a notable track record of testing various products, from kitchen blenders to toys, making this collaboration with Samsonite a significant addition to their portfolio. The extreme testing of the Proxis suitcase not only showcases its durability but also highlights the innovative spirit of both companies.
