The nurse introduced Pelicot to the practice of drugging his wife with Temesta, an anti-anxiety medication, and provided him with photos of drugged women. He subsequently utilized an internet forum called “Without Her Knowledge” to invite strangers to his home in the French village of Mazan to commit the assaults.

The accused, Pelicot, detailed how he would mix sedatives or anti-anxiety medications into his wife’s evening meals to render her unconscious. He also imposed specific rules for the men he invited to rape her. The group of men involved included a civil servant, a prison guard, a former police officer, a firefighter, a journalist, and nurses, with ages ranging from 24 to 74.
