If Punjab is written as Panjab, its called a conspiracy.” Diljit claimed that the name ‘Panjab’ is the shortening for the five rivers that delineate this region and pointed out the fact that whether it‘s written as Panjab or Punjab, it will still stay ‘ਪੰਜਾਬ’ in Punjabi script.

But they make the lie seem the truth, and its important to counter them.” His remarks seemed to indicate that while he didn’t intentionally leave out the emoji, he felt a need to correct the misinformation being spread.

The Backlash and Support

The controversy started when Diljit announced his upcoming concert in Chandigarh by putting the name of the region as ‘Panjab’ instead of‘ Punjab.’ Some users took it lightly and pointed out that ‘Panjab’ is used to refer to the region in Pakistan, and alleged that the singer was promoting the Pakistani version. However, the fans and supporters of the singer stood by him for his right to use the word as he wanted.
