Finally, Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh has responded to the controversy over his recent tweet in which he used the term ‘Panjab’ instead of ‘Punjab.’ The tweet, which was posted ahead of his concert in Chandigarh, had sparked a flurry of reactions online, with many netizens accusing the singer of promoting a term used on the Pakistani side of Punjab.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Diljit explained that the spelling of the word ‘Punjab‘ as ‘Panjab‘ had nothing to do with conspiracy but was merely the meaning of the word as historically used. If Punjab is written as Panjab, it‘s called a conspiracy.” Diljit claimed that the name ‘Panjab’ is the shortening for the five rivers that delineate this region and pointed out the fact that whether it‘s written as Panjab or Punjab, it will still stay ‘ਪੰਜਾਬ’ in Punjabi script.

He was also bashing those accusing him of supporting Pakistan as his term has been ‘Panjab‘ in the future. Clarification on Tricolour Emoji Controversy
In the ‘Panjab’ versus ‘Punjab’ spelling row, Diljit was trolled for referring to Punjab without using the tricolour emoji and yet for other cities he used. Reacting to this, the singer had said, “I don‘t bother about them“. But they make the lie seem the truth, and it‘s important to counter them.” His remarks seemed to indicate that while he didn’t intentionally leave out the emoji, he felt a need to correct the misinformation being spread.
