Jason Williams of Chicago thwarted a burglary attempt at his residence on June 20 in a dramatic encounter captured on CCTV footage that has since gone viral on social media. Williams, returning home from work, received an alert from his alarm system indicating a break-in just minutes before he arrived.

Upon entering his house, Williams quickly grabbed a frying pan as the burglar descended the stairs. In an interview with ABC Chicago, Williams recounted the tense moments: “Came in the house, I looked if there was an available weapon. There was a frying pan lying there, so I grabbed the frying pan, and at the same time the burglar came downstairs.”

The footage shows Williams chasing the suspect out of his home and around the yard until Chicago police arrived on the scene. Determined to protect his home, Williams took matters into his own hands until law enforcement apprehended the suspect across the street.

“At this point it was fight or flight, and I would rather do the fighting,” Williams remarked on the incident.

Sharing the CCTV footage, which has amassed over 1 million views, Williams expressed relief at the outcome: “This could have had a different ending, and I’m glad it had a good one.”

According to a report from ABC Chicago, Chicago police have confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the attempted burglary.
