Bunking Class? This Teacher Will Personally Fetch You To School

Gurija Mahesh, a committed teacher at Mandal Parishad Upper Primary School in Damera village, Nalgonda’s Nampally mandal, exemplifies dedication by personally ensuring student attendance. For over 13 years, he has gone beyond his duty, using his two-wheeler to fetch absent students after noticing their absence post-morning prayer at 9:05 am.

“When I find a student missing, I visit their home, discuss with their parents about the reasons for their absence, and bring them to school,” Mahesh explains, emphasizing the importance of regular attendance to maintain learning continuity.

Since the beginning of the current academic year in June, Mahesh has actively pursued this initiative, ensuring that even reluctant students return to school. His journey in education began in 2010, and his commitment to improving attendance grew over the years, influencing parents and students alike.

Mahesh teaches English, Telugu, and environmental science across various government schools in Nalgonda district, including Regatta, Cherukupally, Chamalapally, Nevillagudem, and Damera. His proactive efforts have earned him praise from colleagues for significantly impacting community attitudes towards school attendance.
