In a tragic turn of events, Inderpal Singh, 42, succumbed to burn injuries at a local hospital in Jalandhar’s Anand Nagar, just one morning after five members of his family lost their lives in a devastating explosion that occurred at their residence.
The incident unfolded around 11 p.m. on a fateful Sunday when a malfunction in the compressor of a newly installed refrigerator in their kitchen triggered a fire that swiftly engulfed the nearby LPG cylinder. The family was asleep when this horrifying event took place.
The devastating fire claimed the lives of five family members, including Inderpal’s father, Yashpal Ghai, aged 70, his wife Ruchi Ghai, aged 40, and their children Mansha, 14, Diya, 12, and Akshay, 10.
Inderpal Singh, who was critically injured in the blast, was rushed to the hospital immediately after the incident. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he tragically passed away the following morning.
Ashok Sareen, a prominent BJP leader from Jalandhar, expressed profound sorrow at the loss, noting that Inderpal was an active member of the party. He lamented the tragic fate of an entire family, with the sole survivor being Inderpal’s mother, who was fortunately away visiting relatives at the time of the incident.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, with forensic teams collecting evidence from the scene to determine the exact cause of the fire. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankur Gupta stated that the investigation is being conducted from all possible angles to uncover the full extent of the tragedy.
Investigating Officer Hardev Singh provided initial insights, explaining that the explosion originated in the refrigerator, releasing gases that subsequently ignited. The inhalation of these gases proved fatal for the five unfortunate family members.
