Tragic Fire In Jhansi Hospital: 10 Newborns Dead, Rescue Efforts Ongoing

A devastating fire broke out late Friday night in the neonatal ward of Rani Lakshmi Bai Medical College, Jhansi, resulting in the tragic deaths of 10 newborns. The fire, which began around 10:30 pm, has left the region in shock, as the hospital serves as a vital center for neonatal care.

Rescue Operations in Full Swing

Six fire brigade units, along with an Army firefighting vehicle, were deployed to tackle the blaze. Thick smoke in the neonatal care unit made rescue efforts challenging. So far, 37 infants have been rescued safely, while over 50 remain trapped.

Preliminary Cause and Safety Lapses

Initial reports suggest the fire was caused by a cylinder blast. Adding to the tragedy, the hospital’s safety alarm system failed to activate, which likely delayed evacuation efforts. The electricity supply was cut off as a precaution.

Government Response and Investigation

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken swift action, ordering an immediate inquiry into the incident. A committee led by the Jhansi divisional commissioner has been formed to probe the cause and submit a report. Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak and senior health officials are on their way to Jhansi, and a team of specialists from Kanpur has been dispatched to aid in rescue and medical care.

Grief and Chaos at the Hospital

Grieving families gathered at the hospital, creating a tense atmosphere. Police forces have been deployed to manage the crowd and maintain order.

A Regional Tragedy

The incident has deeply impacted Bundelkhand, as Rani Lakshmi Bai Medical College is a critical healthcare provider in the area. The tragedy has raised serious concerns about hospital safety protocols and emergency preparedness.
