A tractor went out of control and plowed into spectators during a tractor race in the village of Domeli in Punjab’s Kapurthala district, resulting in serious injuries to five people. The injured are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Jalandhar. Following the incident, police arrived at the scene and detained four individuals for questioning.
Tractor stunts and racing have long been a tradition in Punjab, often leading to accidents.
Despite previous incidents, these dangerous activities continue.
In this latest incident, a tractor became uncontrollable during a race in Domeli village, hitting spectators standing by the track. Five people were seriously injured, with some harrowing videos emerging from the scene.
According to reports, Phagwara police have arrested four individuals in connection with the incident. DSP Phagwara, Jaspreet Singh, seized three tractors at the scene. Further arrests are expected.
DSP Jaspreet Singh stated that they received information about an illegal tractor race in Domeli village, which led to the accident. Upon arrival, the crowd dispersed, and four individuals were taken into custody. The injured were admitted to private hospitals in Phagwara and Jalandhar. An FIR has been registered against 11 people.
One of the injured, Ratan Singh, recounted that he and his friend were watching the race from the sidelines when a tractor suddenly lost control and headed towards them. The tractor ran over them before they could react, breaking Ratan Singh’s leg. His friend Amit was also severely injured.DSP Jaspreet Singh confirmed that no permission was granted for the race. The tractor driver was also injured in the incident. The government has declared such races illegal, and committee members organizing the race will be arrested.
The case names the following individuals: Sukhwinder Singh, Teerath Singh, Deepa, Shyam, Tanveer Singh, Meeta, Boota, Bitta, Rupa, Sukhdev Singh, and Bachittar Singh.
