Congress Uttam Kumar Reddy Nalamada once again locks horns with BRS sitting MLA Saidireddy Shanampudi in Huzurnagar. Political analysts said, Huzurnagar is an assembly seat in Telangana where the Reddy community is largest, with 40,000 votes, but there will be tough competition between the former MLA and the sitting MLA.
In the 2018 elections, Uttam Kumar Reddy Nalamada won the Huzurnagar seat by securing 92996 votes but left it when, in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Reddy won the Nalgonda parliamentary constituency by defeating Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s (TRS) Vemireddy Narasimha Reddy with a margin of 25,682 votes, which has created sentiments among people that he is not firm.
Uttam Reddy made his political debut in 1999, and since then, he has contested in the Kodad constituency, Huzurnagar, and Nalgonda. In the 2009 Assembly polls, he won the Huzurnagar constituency by defeating TRS candidate Jagadeesh Reddy Guntakandla by a margin of 29,194 votes. In the 2014 polls, Reddy again won the seat by defeating TRS candidate Kasoju Shankaramma by a margin of 23,924 votes. He also won the seat in 2018 and left it after being elected as a Nalgonda Lok Sabha member in 2019.
He represented the Telangana region in an all-party meeting held by the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in January 2011 to discuss the Srikrishna Committee report.
In 2015, he served as the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), a post he held until June 2021. After the defeat of the Congress party in the 2020 GHMC elections, he resigned as the TPCC president. However, the party continued with him until he was replaced by Revanth Reddy in June 2021.
Before his foray into politics, Uttam Reddy was a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force. He flew the MiG 21 and MiG 23 in front-line fighter squadrons. He served as the Controller of Security, Protocol, Administration, and the Foreign Trip of the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
