Sheikh Hasina Set to Return as PM, Says Awami League Leader

Sheikh Hasina’s Return to Power Assured Dr. Rabbi Alam, US Awami League Vice President, has assured that Sheikh Hasina would soon be returning as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister. Thanking India, he recognised the efforts made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government of India in providing a secure passage and refuge to Awami League leaders in this crisis period.

Talking to ANI, Alam, a confidant of the deposed Prime Minister, was sure about Hasina’s return while ignoring the legitimacy of the present administration headed by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus.

“We want to ask the Bangladesh Advisor to step down and go back to where he came from… Sheikh Hasina is coming back as the Prime Minister. The young generation has made a mistake, but that’s not their fault; they have been manipulated,” Alam said.

Bangladesh Experiences Crisis, Demands Global Attention Alam defined the situation in Bangladesh as an attack, demanding international intervention.

“Bangladesh is under attack, and it needs to be addressed by the international community. A political uprising is fine, but that is not what has been going on in Bangladesh. This is a terrorist uprising,” he added.

Awami League Thanks India for Support Amid Political Crisis

He particularly expressed gratitude to India. “Many of our leaders are sheltered here in India, and we are very thankful to the Indian government for providing the alignment. I also thank PM Narendra Modi for providing a safe travel passage for our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. We are thankful to the people of India,” Alam said.

Seizure of Sheikh Hasina’s Properties Tensions ran higher in Bangladesh as a Dhaka court directed the seizure of Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi home, ‘Sudhasadan.’ The court also directed the freezing of other assets owned by her relatives, including her son Sajib Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and sister Sheikh Rehana.

Besides, 124 bank accounts of the family members of Hasina were also frozen. The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib at the request of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Bangladesh Files Protest Against Hasina’s Remarks Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs submitted a formal protest to India against what it called “false and fabricated” remarks by Sheikh Hasina. A protest note was submitted to the Acting High Commissioner of India in Dhaka, calling on the Indian government to take action to stop Hasina from issuing “incendiary remarks” on social media and other media.

Legal Challenges and Political Uprising Continue in Bangladesh

Arrest Warrant and Political Protest In January, Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) had issued an arrest warrant against Hasina and 10 other people, including former Defence Adviser Major General (retired) Tarique Ahmed Siddique and former-Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed. The warrants followed charges of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.

Bangladesh’s political crisis started on August 5, when a student uprising led to the removal of Hasina after weeks of protests and street battles, killing more than 600. She subsequently fled to India, and an interim government was set up under Yunus.

Political tensions in Bangladesh are still running high with the return of Hasina imminent as her supporters and detractors look forward to the next phase in the country’s leadership crisis.
