PM Modi Arrives in Trinidad and Tobago to Boost Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Trinidad and Tobago late on Friday. This visit is part of his five-nation tour. He flew in from Ghana to begin the second leg of the journey.

Warm Welcome at the Airport

Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar personally welcomed him at Piarco International Airport. She was joined by her full Cabinet. Authorities gave PM Modi a Guard of Honour. Notably, Persad-Bissessar wore Indian traditional clothes to receive him.

PM Modi’s Message to the Public

Shortly after his arrival, Modi posted on X, “Landed in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. I thank Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, distinguished members of the Cabinet and MPs for the gesture of welcoming me at the airport. This visit will further cement bilateral ties between our nations. Looking forward to addressing a community programme in a few hours from now.”

Grand Reception by Indian Community

Later, the Indian diaspora greeted Modi at his hotel. They raised slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Modi, Modi.” An orchestra played, and a group performed bhajans (devotional songs).

Celebrating Shared Culture

While in Port of Spain, PM Modi watched a Bhojpuri Chautaal performance. This is a folk tradition from India. He remarked, “The connect between Trinidad & Tobago and India, especially parts of eastern UP and Bihar is noteworthy.”

High-Level Meetings Ahead

During his visit, PM Modi will hold talks with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar. They will focus on deepening cooperation between the two nations.

Address to Parliament

In addition, Modi is expected to speak at a Joint Session of Trinidad and Tobago’s Parliament. His visit aims to add new momentum to the historic and cultural ties that both countries share.
