King Charles and Camilla Queen took part in pre-Ramadan preparations on Wednesday at Darjeeling Express, an Indian restaurant in London. The royal couple mingled with staff members and took part in a charitable cause before the Islamic holy month.

The Royal Family’s official Instagram account posted a video of the visit, highlighting how Their Majesties spent time with a team of Muslim women who are professional athletes, artists, and business leaders. They also helped the all-female kitchen staff of the restaurant pack the biryani boxes to be donated.

Supporting Charitable Causes During Ramadan

“Celebrating British Muslim women at @DarjeelingLdn! Ranging from professional athletes to artists and leaders in the corporate world, The King and Queen spent time with a group of extraordinary women as they prepare for Ramadan,” read the caption of the Instagram post.

“His and Her Majesties also participated in the restaurant’s all-female kitchen staff to fill biryani into boxes. These will be distributed to families being helped by Doorstep, as part of Darjeeling Express’ dedication to cook for charitable purposes every Ramadan,” it added.

Ramadan, that month of fasting and contemplation for Muslims all over the globe, is also a month of giving. The event at Darjeeling Express was meant to honor the ingenuity and variety of Muslim women while celebrating the essence of the holy month.

Meeting with Leaders and Community Players

King Charles and Queen Camilla, as reported by The Independent, had interactions with prominent guests, such as professional rugby player Zainab Alema and writer Hajera Memon. As the King conversed with painters and businesswomen, Queen Camilla assisted the kitchen staff in preparing food donations for Doorstep, a charity that helps families in crisis while they search for permanent homes.

The royal pair also came across MasterChef champion and doctor Saliha Mahmood-Ahmed and assisted in packing dates into small packets to be donated to hospitals over Ramadan.

Of note, Ramadan will start on Friday night and run through to March 29. With their participation, King Charles and Queen Camilla showed their dedication to giving back to multicultural communities as well as to charitable causes in the UK.
