The joint operation, carried out by the Delhi Traffic Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), focused on areas known for chronic congestion, illegal parking and the unauthorised occupation of roads and footpaths. Teams were deployed across major commercial hubs and residential localities to tackle violations that have long caused inconvenience to commuters.
Officials said strict action was taken against motorists who parked vehicles in prohibited zones or obstructed traffic. Thousands of vehicles were fined, while several were towed away from busy roads and market areas. Authorities said the drive helped ease bottlenecks at several high-traffic locations.
MCD personnel also removed unauthorised structures, roadside obstructions and illegal encroachments from public land. Pavements occupied by vendors and temporary structures were cleared to restore pedestrian access and improve safety. Civic officials said reclaiming footpaths was essential to ensuring the smooth movement of both pedestrians and vehicles.
The operation was launched following repeated complaints from residents about traffic jams, blocked walkways and the misuse of public spaces. According to officials, encroachments and haphazard parking have become major contributors to congestion in several parts of the capital, affecting daily commuters and emergency services alike.
Residents largely welcomed the initiative, saying it provided temporary relief from traffic chaos in several localities. However, some expressed concern that the benefits could be short-lived unless regular monitoring was carried out. Similar drives in the past have often seen violators return once enforcement efforts ended.
Officials acknowledged the challenge and stressed that the campaign was not a one-time exercise. They warned that strict enforcement would continue in the coming months and urged citizens to follow traffic rules and respect public spaces.
