Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, India’s iconic economist, dies at 92.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a distinguished economist and a significant political character in India, died on Thursday at the age of 92. He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi when his health worsened. Dr. Singh arrived at the emergency room of the hospital around 8 p. m. , where the medical staff exerted great effort but were unable to save him.

Dr. Singh was regarded as the architect of India’s economic liberalization. His role as finance minister from 1991 to 1996, under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, signified a pivotal shift in India’s economic timeline. He opened India’s economy to the global market and fostered its swift economic growth.

Dr. Singh, who served as prime minister from 2004 to 2014, was instrumental in numerous landmark advancements, such as the Indo-US nuclear agreement and remarkable economic development. His calm demeanor, sharp intellect, and dedication to integrity earned him admiration from all in the political arena.

He is survived by three daughters and his wife, Gursharan Kaur. Details regarding the funeral arrangements have not yet been disclosed.

India grieves the loss of a leader whose impact on the nation’s economic and political landscape will endure for future generations.
