Strengthening India-Chile Relations
Grateful to India for its welcome, President Boric said that his visit was important, being the first state visit of a Chilean president in 16 years. He appreciated India’s dramatic change in the last decade and stressed the importance of building bilateral relations.
“Chile is a nation that is linked to the world, and now we wish to develop our relationship with India. Today we signed a number of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs),” he mentioned. The pacts are on cultural exchanges, Antarctic studies, and strategic collaboration. He emphasized Chile’s position as an entrance to Antarctica, affirming the need for cooperation in scientific discovery.
A Cramped Itinerary in India
President Boric’s visit on April 1-5 covers New Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. President Boric initially met PM Modi in November 2024 on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, where he paved the way for intensifying diplomatic contact.
To commemorate his visit, President Droupadi Murmu received a banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan in his honor. The visit is expected to enhance ties between India and Chile in core sectors, indicating a mutual dedication to strategic autonomy and international cooperation.
