An American Airlines flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to New Delhi (DEL) was diverted in an emergency to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport after a bomb threat was reported on board.
The Boeing 777-300ER, with 285 people on board, was supposed to fly nonstop to India. But mid-flight, flight crew received a tip-off of a possible explosive device on board, and action was taken immediately following international aviation security procedures.
As per AirNav Radar tracking services, the plane took a steep turn over the Mediterranean Sea and diverted towards Rome, where preparations for emergency landing were quickly set in motion. The flight is being closely monitored as it crosses into Italian airspace.
Rome authorities are set to carry out a complete security scan of the plane prior to deciding on the future of passengers and crew. More information about the threat and investigation is not disclosed.
