BJP leader Sita Soren, Shibu Soren’s daughter-in-law, escaped narrowly from an attack when her erstwhile personal assistant (PA), Devashish Ghosh, reportedly pulled out a pistol on her within a hotel room late last night. Swift action by her bodyguard saved the situation from going out of control.
The episode occurred at the posh Sonotel Hotel in the Saraidhela police station. Devashish Ghosh tried to intimidate Sita Soren with a pistol, but she was overpowered by her bodyguard before a single shot could be fired. Police officials, headed by Saraidhela police officer-in-charge Nutan Modi, rushed to the spot and took Ghosh into custody. A pistol was seized from the hotel room, and investigations are ongoing.
Motive Behind Attack Remains Unclear
The authorities are still to ascertain the specific motive behind the attack. The police are questioning Ghosh, and further details are likely to come out. Security for Sita Soren has been strengthened considerably, and the hotel has been sealed to allow for an investigation.
Sita Soren Was in Dhanbad Attending a Wedding
Sita Soren had come to Dhanbad on Thursday night to visit a wedding ceremony in Katras, which falls in the Baghmara block. She returned to the Sonotel Hotel for the night after the function. Sources say both her bodyguard and Devashish Ghosh were in the room when an argument erupted between her and Ghosh over a matter that is not known. In the course of the heated argument, Ghosh reportedly produced a pistol, prompting his instant arrest by the bodyguard.
Legal Proceedings On
After his arrest, Devashish Ghosh was arrested and is being produced in court. “More details of the incident will be given after the investigation,” said officer Nutan Modi.
The terror attack has drawn attention to threats to security against political leaders in Jharkhand. Authorities are keeping the case under strict observation, and further security protocols are likely to be implemented to protect Sita Soren.
