The Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement about the law and order situation in Punjab and stated categorically, “We are vigil and will not let anyone disturb Punjab. The State and Centre governments together would deal with it”. Punjab Police on Tuesday carried out a special cordon-and-search operation aimed at checking the movement of anti-social elements and drug smugglers
across the state.
On Tuesday morning, Punjab Police chief DGP Gaurav Yadav led the cordon and search operation from Ludhiana. DGP Yadav himself was seen on road conducting raids with his team.
Punjab Police tweeted from its official handle and stated, “DGP Punjab Police along with senior officers conducted CASO at mass scale against anti-social elements & drug peddlers to break the supply chains to create Safe Punjab for our people. Cordon & Search Operations are conducted all over the state.”
The operation was conducted simultaneously across the state and ADGP/IGP rank officers from Punjab Police Headquarters were deputed in each Police district to personally supervise the operation.
“The idea behind conducting CASO at mass-scale level was to boost public confidence and increase the presence of the cops to infuse fear among the anti-social elements,” said the DGP, while addressing the media on the sidelines of the operation in Ludhiana.
Meanwhile, in Ludhiana, the operation was carried out in areas including Ghorha Colony, Ambedkar Colony, Moti Nagar and Peeru Banda localities four suspected persons identified as Mohit Kumar of Durgapuri Mohalla, Sonu of Peeru Banda, Gaurav of Chander Nagar, and Mohan of New Kundanpuri were rounded-up during the search operation, while, 12-gms heroin was recovered during a search in Ghora colony.
Apart from this, the police administration launched a search operation in the Batti Sada Wali area of Moga. During this door-to-door search, an operation was conducted in Moga.
Punjab Police have apprehended as many as 98 persons, including three proclaimed offenders, involved in different crimes. A total of 97 first information reports (FIRs) have been registered in this regard.
Sharing the outcome of the CASO operation carried out across the state on Tuesday, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said that over 12000 Police Personnel under the supervision of ADGsP/IGsP and concerned CPs/SSPs carried out CASO across the state.
He said that the police teams have recovered 1Kg Heroin, Rs 10.91 lakh drug money, 158ltrs Illicit Liquor, 660 kg lahan, 103 kg poppy husk, 19 kg bhang and 10460 intoxicant tablets. Apart from this, the police have also recovered two pistols, one rifle and one gun along with ammunition and 30 motorcycles during the five hour long operation.
Talwandi Kalan, a village which is infamous for drug smuggling, the Punjab police raided the bar here, but as soon as the smugglers got to know about the raid, they vanished from the spot. Talwandi Kalan is located on Jalandhar Road State Highway. It is famous here that Drug dealers supply drugs here after receiving a supply from the Amritsar border and this village is infamous.
The DGP said maintaining peace and harmony in the state is their prime motto. When asked about the state government’s recent move to review arms licenses, Yadav said a drive to verify the licenses in coordination with deputy commissioners would start soon in the state. “Physical verification of all arms licenses issued till now will be done,” he added further.
Yadav said the state government had banned the display of weapons in public, including on social media, and action would be taken if anyone violated the order.
There would be an extensive checking of gun storehouses. “We will check gun houses and their stocks,” he said. Asking about Hate speech, Yadav said strict action would be taken against anyone making hate speech against any community.
