In a significant political development, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee has declared that the INDIA bloc has faltered under Congress leadership, advocating for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to assume the alliance’s helm. This assertion aligns with former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s endorsement of Mamata Banerjee as the coalition’s leader.
Kalyan Banerjee stated, “We had said earlier only that Congress should understand that INDIA bloc has failed under its leadership. It will be good if Mamata Didi is brought for leadership (of INDIA bloc). Out of all the leaders, Mamata Didi’s name is on top when it comes to fighting politically.”
He further urged the Congress to shed its ego, emphasising Mamata Banerjee’s adeptness at addressing public concerns: “Congress should get rid of its ego. She knows how to raise the issues related to the people.”
Lalu Prasad Yadav’s remarks have intensified the leadership discourse within the opposition alliance. In Patna, he commented, “Congress’s objection means nothing. We will support Mamata. Mamata Banerjee should be given the leadership (of the INDIA Bloc). We will form the government again in 2025.”
However, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has adopted a cautious approach. MP Mahua Majhi noted, “There is no official statement from our party yet. I cannot say anything about it. Every party has their opinion. When the meeting will take place and whatever would be decided unanimously, that would be acceptable to our party…”
The Congress has yet to officially respond to these suggestions, prompting speculation about potential internal divisions within the INDIA bloc.
